In my hunt to find and purchase a Passat to replace my totaled one I've come across a wagon that is already modified.

No engine mods, but the ad says "Lowered on H&R with Bilstein Sports, audi A8 Flat Five wheels with spacers, Conti Extreme DWS tires, tinted windows, tow hitch, HIDs, LEDs, currently running straight pipe after cats". Also says that it was used to tow his bike a few times, if that means anything.

Ad also states "replaced timing belt, water pump, serp belt, cam tensioner gaskets, seals, valve cover gaskets, brand new G12 coolant, NGK plugs, wires, alignment just done, oil change just done"

Has 130k on it, asking $5000 but will take any offer.

EDIT: It's a 2003 B5.5 V6 5MT.

Thoughts?

It's a bit of trip from me, so I figured I'd ask before I took the trip down there to see it/drive it.

Thanks everyone

You arent that far from me. I have a for sale thread here as well.
Also has a panasonic cd changer using the factory plug and monsoon radio controls.
I have towed my bike with it this summer, thats probably the only use it got. I went to NJMP 5 times so thats a 180 mile round trip each time, didnt even feel the trailer and the rear didnt sit down either.

The car is all there and everything works, just changed the oil again and had the oil pan and pick up tubes cleaned.
BAD: needs an axle, wheel bearing (both left front), some minor cosmetics but overall looks very good. NEVER BEEN PAINTED ANYWHERE!!!! I have the carfax on hand also. I am looking to sell it ASAP so I will spam CL today lol.

No rules, of course, but most people prefer not to buy a car that's not stock. You have no idea of the quality of the work (no offense, Adrenalin) or the parts, and it's unlikely their choices in mods will match yours. There's also the documentation issue; if anything - especially electrical or sound system stuff - has been changed, you're in for a wild ride ever working on it again. Most owners don't record the changes, so you have a reverse-engineering job to do. You also have the wear-and-tear-factor. Enthusiast-owned cars are often driven, ah, enthusiastically. What I do is figure the blue book, and deduct the cost to put it back to stock. Balances out.

Of course, the owner will shriek at your dismissal of all his hard work. Down the street from me, there's a rather nice silver wagon. However, it's slammed and has (to me) stupid wheels. Owner can't believe it won't bring more than book; of course, he no longer has the original wheels or suspension parts.

OTOH, if your taste matches the owners, and every change on it is something that you'd want yourself - Win! (maybe).

NON-taken scott, I agree with you in general. I havent touched any electrical or audio stuff other than plugging in a cd changer into the factory plug and wiring in a 4-pin tow harness.
I have the original suspension and original wheels, HA! lol
Side note: I will gladly sell the OE suspension and wheels for $5k asking price and include the whole car with them.

Well this makes me feel better knowing that you're a member here. What's the interior and trim level? It doesn't mention it in the ad. Essentially the car is everything I would've done anyway (in the next 10 years due to have no money for mods right now read: in college).

Apologies if I offended you at all for posting this and questioning your work, pleasure meeting you :driving:

Everything is fine lol no worries. Its a GLX with gray leather, moonroof, monsoon audio, wood trim, euro switch with fogs and option for rear fog (not connected), climatronic, heated seats (HOT),
All the work was done by a VW tech either at the old dealership I worked at prior or my driveway by a VW tech and myself.
