What lies have you told your wife, to buy mods?

OK Men,
I know I'm not the only one out there that has to lie to his wife, in order to buy mod parts. I just got a new set of 18" BBS wheels, and I had to lie about the price and how I got them. I'm also going to have to lie about the Eibach lowering springs next week...

I think this post will be funny as hell!

Let's hear some of the stunts you guys have pulled.

Why lie to her? Just tell her the truth.

She thought it was crazy to buy $300 worth of drilled rotors and Mintex pads, until I asked the stealership what the brakes would cost; $800.

That was all the green light I needed, no deception required. Most good aftermarket parts are cheaper than OEM anyhow, and I tell her that.

When I got rims, I told her I would sell the old ones and recoup most of the loss.

When it was all said and done, the rims only cost me $100, but had a new set of tires on them. She thought a new set of tires for $100 was a great deal.

As for springs, etc. I just tell her what I want and if we have some extra $$$, it's OK.

No need to lie to get get goodies.

I tell her the truth. :nervous: Just remember it's better to spend money on the car than another woman.

yeah, the truth seems to be the best.

a chip - better gas milage
a new exhust - better gas millage
a new intake - better gas milage
a new turbo - better gas milage
an inter-cooler - better gas milage

ect... ect... all true unless you floor it all the time
you know what, you may not even have to tell her.... my wife doesn't notice a whole lot when it comes to cars....
I'm thinking the lowering kit will go unnoticed... but 18" BBS wheels?

LOL!! Yeah, that would be one that is hard to explain away...
My wife loves it when I buy mods for my :b5: ! Because that means I have to give her money too!
I did all the mods on the pick up day, so she could not see she what it was like before :D Besides, thereware hardly any other Passat Varient in my area.

Any other mod afterwards.... just tell her it is better for the millage and it's my onw pocket money.... :D
Actually,my wife loves the suspension mods on my car. I have paid for it all by doing suspension installs for other Passat owners.

The best was Controlfreak654,he posted that he needed to buy something before his wife got home.
need new turbo? just tell her yours went out
need a chip, tell her you have a CEL and you need a new one
need dv valve? tell her yours is plastic and a metal one is the best for a long lasting turbo
and so on...
have her sit down and make a list of the jewelery, shoes, clothes, etc. that she buys...add it up....then you add the mods you buy for your car...I can almost guarantee that she'll no longer bug you about buying mods... :)
I don't answer to my wife about the car at all, She is so incredible, as I am obsessing about it, then brings me drinks, food....etc.

She even takes notice of nice cars now, and spots mods...

I do what I do, that's it...I guess I found another reason I married the right girl :)

OR?!?!.........she's just going to kill me while I sleep one night, with a stock shock :nervous:

Haha i just see you guys sneeking around making mods and your wife not noticing but then what you dont see is her buying new outfits. Would you notice if she bought new outfits like you buy mods? Dont underestamate your women.
My wife is cool about the whole thing... heck even bought me a short shift kit for fathers day last year.
I have a self imposed 1/2 of a new carpayment allowance that keeps my car in top shape and allows for a couple of mods a year.
No probs with the wife... I just dont tell her how much everything totals to...

ain't that the truth...
I discovered one broken clip on my OEM grill and told my wife that I better buy a Kamei replacement before it falls off. She just laughed and said to buy it if I wanted, but she thought the old grill looked better.

My wife has never given me a problem with mods I've done. In fact she has encouraged me along a few times when I've been reluctant to spend the money. I think she feels like I need the hobby to stay sane - ain't it the truth! Besides, we have been car-payment-free for the last 10 years! It is amazing how much extra dough you can find to play with when you aren't paying $800/month to a bank (2 cars).

One question - Why does this thread suggest that guys lie to their wives and not the other way around? I'd be curious to know about the lies any of the women members have told to get mods past their hubbies as well.
