UPDATE: I Found It!...What is this broken plastic part on the motor?

Auto part Pipe Fuel line Engine Vehicle

UPDATE: The forum won't let me delete this thread so I will update. I found the part, it is a vacuum check valve.

I've just bought a 2002 Passat B5.5 4cyl Turbo. I've never had a VW before so excuse me if I come across as asking dumb questions. Looking under the hood on what I assume is a vacuum line or something...there is a broken plastic piece that one of the hoses clamps to. What is this part so I know what to buy for a replacement?

Thank you

Yup, check valve, there are several under the manifold. That one obviously broke off in that curved hose. You'll need to get the broken piece out (needle nose pliers should do it or a pick) reattach with the clamp that's already there. The clamp on the other side of that check valve is a one time use clamp that VW uses, you'll have to get it off and use a new clamp (just like the other one is fine). I find the easiest way to get those clamps off is to use strong cutters and you can usually cut right through the piece that is crimped, a screw driver works in a pinch.

Not a dumb question at all, that is what Passatworld is for. Your question is the exact same question I asked back in 2012 when I bought my first Passat (2005 4 motion). With Passatworld I now have 3 and just did a complete top end rebuild on my wifes Passat after her cam chain tensioner failed (my fault for not getting it replaced when I should have).
