I've owned it for 11 months now.

*K&N panel filter
*replaced two inline check valves
*APR 93 octane DPP
*found and fixed vacuum leak (L hose)
*Got the STOP low oil pressure warning, and have been saving up money for a new engine for the past 9 1/2 months. Should get car back next thursday.

I know I'll be getting a passat wagon within the next few months and I am just trying to decide on what i should be hunting for 1.8t or 2.8 vr6; 5spd or tip? any input on maintenance as this will likely be the determining factor.

thanks.
Most here would say the V6 is more reliable, but both engines have their drawbacks. A used 1.8T is risky unless you know the maintenance history - synthetic oil only at the proper OCI. Otherwise, it could have a sludge problem. See a post or two above on that (STOP light on low oil pressure). BTW, the Passat has a V6, not the same as VW's vr6.

I have managed to completely rip the whole car apart.
Spent an ass load of money on it and have done absolutely nothing about getting it back together. I should probably be punished in some way. Like sentenced to the garage and don't come out until it's done.

U guys are mod mad I tell ya! But that is good!
I'm outta warranty with my 1.8T '03 B5 so will probably start doing some more mods. (zerolux, feel free to come over and work on mine anytime!)

Only thing so far this year is a new set of rims and tires. Conservative 16" MSW Type 15 (shipping in Sept) with Kumho Ecsta SPT rubber from the tire rack. Am thinking about chipping and getting a new stereo. Any recommendations?

Any chip upgrades allow ya to keep using 87 octane?

So far:

changed oil and filter
replaced broken timing belt tensioner so while I was down there...
replaced all belts
replaced water pump
replaced coolant
replaced broken dip-stick tube's plastic section
replaced leaking oil pressure (idiot light) switch
replaced coolant temp. sensor that nearly stranded me a couple of times.

Also replaced all 4 tires. I may make it to the end of the year before my Die-Hard really dies-hard! It's getting harder to start these days; my last one went for 5 years. This one is over 4 years so it may be time. :D

You're not suppose to use 87 Octane to begin with
