Drove the Tiguan about 30 miles roundtrip to my wife's Dr visit, then lunch, booster and Flu shots. 75% highway with the a/c (bad allergies and upper 70s) and averaged over 30mpg. Got a pic with the fall garden out front.

Do I see the right side of the driveway cleared out?
Yes, I had everything cleared so I can get rid of the donor car before the 1st frost hits. I need a lot of room for plants in the garage. It's painful to put them on the hood and roof like the last few years.

Just got back from a 1300 mile round trip drive to Asheville, NC with the A4. Ticked over 70k miles on the odo while doing it. Right at the end of my 5k oil change interval. Not a drop of oil used in 5k. Averaged 36.1 mpg at 75-80mph. Finally got to test the S4 brakes on a panic stop/slow down. A deer tried crossing in front of me while passing a semi at around 80mph. Anything that wasn't secured in the back seat came up front .

We got 36 mpg in the Tiguan on a 200mile trip back from Austin when I kept the CC set to 75-78 in flowing traffic last month. A/C running, temps about 100, and a 5mph tailwind. We hit 29.2 on the way down with heavy traffic including 1hr of stop and go on the highway.

Since my Passat is running fine at the moment (jinxed myself), I thought I would tackle the rear main seal and oil pan gasket on my '99 Dakota. Almost as bad as working on a Passat. I have to remove the frickin' front axle assembly! This thing kicked my ass all day today, and I'm only halfway done. If I wouldn't have wasted 3 hours watching the Packers suck I might have gotten further along.

Took the Rav4 out exploring this morning to survey all the carnage from the previous days storm.
The Rav4 is covered in mud. :D
Wife wasn't very happy about that, seeing as it's her daily driver.

Ran over somebody's dog tonight. Fricking dog jumped out of the bushes on the side of the road and right into the front of the Rav4.
Now I need a whole new front cover, valance and plastic moldings. Can't wait to see the price tag on this one.
Don't know what kind of dog it was but it was pretty damn big. Damage to the front cover is pretty severe. I know there's at least one sensor in there.

Just the cost of the deductible, no?

Put a trailer hitch on the Wife's Q5 specifically for a bike rack, but now I can pull a small trailer if need be. Spent a lot of money that weekend. 2 Hybrid Cannondale bikes, helmets, hitch, rack. Yes, I know the bikes are backwards in those pics. My friend was helping me load them and the beers beforehand didn't help with paying attention to the orientation  .

No cutting and used the stock hardware. All that I needed to do was remove the bumper, unbolt the incredibly light aluminum crash bar, install the hitch in its' place, then put the bumper back on. Didn't even need to trim or cut anything as the later 8R Q5 rear bumpers have a removable cut out for a hitch.

Correct.
However, with all the stuff going on with insurance these days and all of the fine print exceptions I was hesitant to go running to the insurance.
I enjoyed a couple months of reduced rate because I now live in the middle of nowhere, but my rates went up (only slightly) recently for some reason.

Update

Well I took a good hard look at this situation today and I was able to make it look like nothing happened, mostly anyways.
I removed the whole front cover section and it associated parts. The right side corner had a huge dent in it and I was able to push that out without breaking the plastic or cracking the paint finish.
I let it warm up in the sun before working on it. The lower valance that's like an integrated part to the front cover also had a decent sized dent. Same thing, I was able to work it work after the sun made it nice and warm.
After pulling off the front cover the only real damage was the majority of the plastic clips and fasteners being broken. With those fasteners not holding the cover in place it looked worse than it really was. I found a bunch of OEM fasteners on fleabay and ordered those up for a permanent fix. For now I used a bunch of heavy duty zip ties to hold everything back in place. The right fender molding I "glued" back on with silicone. I had to do something temporary as my wife needs the vehicle for transportation to and from work.
The only piece I really need new is the right front fender molding. That's the one piece that looks a little funky. Doesn't flow along the fender line very well because every one of the plastic tabs are broken off on that piece. I'll hit up the stealership for that part.

05 Golf 2.Slow; Repaired 4 cracks in the plastic vacuum tube to the power booster. It's plastic molded to the check valve, booster. After the booster, it goes under the car. Each connection cracked due to stress, only one 3" rubber hose at the engine, and enough engine movement over the years. Stupid, lightweight design is now updated with 4x4" sections of R30 heat and gas-resistant 15/32" PCV line. My son didn't notice he only had manual brakes, he did notice the CEL.

New brake pads all around, air filter, air-up tires, new front wipers, hood strut, and hatch struts. I also swapped 2 floormat holders from the back seat to the driver's side mat.

We put 64K on it in 17 years, he's put 35K on it in 17 months.

Well, since he's the one putting all these miles on, you did only supervise him while he did all these repairs, right ?

He didn't notice he had manual brakes and you want me to let him work on the car? I let him replace the wiper blades, hood/hatch struts, then air up the tires.

Changed both axles on the '17 Q5 at 132k miles. First non maintenance item and we've owned it since 9k miles. I noticed a few weeks ago that there was some grease dripping on the passenger side. I bought an aftermarket axle, a boot kit, and new 19mm hex hub bolts. For some reason, the axle came with a 17mm like the Passat and so did the GKN boot kit.. Prepared for the worst, would have spare parts for later, best case.

Well, after struggling to get the new axle swapped on the passenger side for two hours (PITA and not much room to maneuver), I noticed that on the test drive that the clicking didn't go away. Driver side looked like it has been busted open for quite some time. In my defense, I never drive it and the wife gets weekly washes.

The front axles on the Q5 are identical side to side, so I rebooted the take-off axle and swapped out the driver side with the old pass side in less than 45 minutes wheels up to wheels down. All good. No noises and no vibration.

Nice work! - I have always been a little afraid to try and replace axles or boots, I let my indy mechanic do those. I put snow tires on the vehicles in Iowa and whenever I switch them I check for random grease spots as an indicator of boot problems.
