If you have a socket wrench extended Allen key, that will work with a 3/8 driver - just to get it loose. Then you’ll need to switch to a stubby to get it out as you’ll back into the firewall. Remove sensors from the snorkel first! Ask me how I know…

Remove sensors from the snorkel first! Ask me how I know…If you're talking about the hard plastic elbow that attaches to the throttle body, that bolt is actually a 5mm allen head. A mini ratchet and magnetic bit holder is what I use to get at that little bastard.
Coolant leaks? That back water pipe that the temp sensor plugs into: are the ends that seat against the block dry? Slightly towards the bank 2 side, is the water pipe coming out from under the intake manifold dry? (Check the front end of that on the right side and under the ignition coil. Check the front and rear bleeder screws. Check the two heater core hoses connecting under the back black pipe. Also check the valley under the intake manifold. Under the intake manifold there are two coolant hoses for the throttle body; engine heat will dry those out too. There’s more at the front to check as well.Got it off and see no signs of leaking, so the search continues. Anything I should do before I put it back together?
Your account says you are from Ireland. You shipped it from Houston to there? Also, this is the B5 Passat thread. We also have one for B7s which is what the 2017 model is.Just today, I spent quite a significant amount of time working on my Passat 2017. First and foremost, I gave it a thorough wash, ensuring every nook and cranny was free of dirt and grime. Next, I inspected the tires and checked their pressure – adjusting it as needed for optimal performance. I bought it via a car auction in Houston several months ago so I believe that it is still much too early for me to spend any considerable amount of money on its maintainance because still the car rides really well![]()
I was wondering the same thing but declined to comment.Your account says you are from Ireland. You shipped it from Houston to there?
You might only need to get rid of that hose clamp and go back to one of the original spring-type. Those worm-gears suck !Put it back together today. Thanks to Rob’s detailed response I searched everywhere on the left side. Looked over and saw coolant on the hose clamp below the upper radiator hose. Looks like I need a new hose. It was wet underneath the joint.
It's not leaking from the lower. I put that on after the lower popped off on the way home after buying it.You might only need to get rid of that hose clamp and go back to one of the original spring-type. Those worm-gears suck !
You know... for not being a B5.5 4Mo Wagon, it looks ok!New wheels and a nuerotic cleaning 😁
Fixed it for ya Rob.Seeing as it's a sedan, it looks awesome!
Soon as the clutch and the clunking front end are taken care of, It's all yours. So I know it's not today, and it's not even my car.... But Sunday I was in Phoenix and took a drive it to go meet another member on here. Drive out to meet AndreasPassat, Dave, and got to see his Passat fleet. It was a great time, I'm always glad to meet people with common interests, and oogle at his cars. Which by the way, the black on black W8 was great looking. 👌
And I might try and talk him out of the Pacific blue w8.... 🤔
Where there's a will, there's a way.Searching for an auto trans that's fwd for a 1.8t at a junk yard, and happened across this.

Can't say just how much I would have loved to get my hands on this before it ended up here. It was only the V8, otherwise I'd be coming home with a W12.... Can these front seats possibly fit in a B5.5 you think? I mean massaging seats do sound really nice.
