I've seen this on many forums and it's always been a winner. Post up what you did to your car today. Add a picture or two that show what your did.

With that, I give you my addition, I polished my headlights.

I'm not sure which transmission you have, but I used to have an issue like this with my 2001 Tip (01V EZZ) 2.8, but I ended up only needing to replace the neutral switch/multifunction switch (01V919821B), the plastic teeth on the gear selector had worn down, so it thought I was in Neutral while I was in Park, or when I was in 2 it thought I was in 4, but occasionally if I got it to drive, it would work fine. I got a replacement neutral safety switch at a junkyard for $12 from a 1.8T, or you can buy aftermarket ones on Amazon/eBay for around $40. I hope you can get your issue fixed! I would scan your car for you if you weren't 5 hours from where I'm going to be tomorrow and friday
How do I find out the specific tranny that I have? It's a 5-speed auto Tiptronic, with the ersatz "manual" option... but that's all I know.
There's a 3 letter code on the transmission case on a silver with green plate. It will be just under the letters 5HP-19, like shown here: 01V / ZF5HP19 FAQ | Kansas City TDI

I think there are various lists on-line of what transmissions were sold with which Passat models but I couldn't find one off the bat.

All B5 models have basically the same Tiptronic transmission, or corresponding manual transmission for the most part as far as I know, just with different transmission codes and (gearing?) As long as it is a Tiptronic, it might have the same issue mine did. Should be same part number, but I'd still scan the transmission first

Haynes tells me that all 5 speeds are 01V, while 4 speeds are 01N

Found out yesterday that my fuel rail-to-flexible hose connection is leaking fuel like a stuck pig.
I see from prior posts here that this is a common problem - especially when it's cold. And it is cold here in beautiful Wisconsin. I didn't come across any solution to this problem.
I tightened the fitting and that seemed to make the leak worse.
Has anyone though to or tried using a nitrile o-ring to stop it from leaking?
I'm hesitant to even drive it now - a paper towel wrapped around the fitting is soaked in fuel after a drive around the block.

It is pretty nice here in Wisconsin for the time being, I'm hanging out near Appleton, heard it's suppose to be pretty cold on my way back to Minnesota on Friday, -20F or so.
Today I replaced my headlights in my A6 "chonky Passat 4Motion Wagon" with Sylvania Silverlight Ultras. I hate those little wire tensioner things! But the lights look super bright against the parking garage wall and I look forward to trying them out on the local mountain highway.

This is the first time I have let a headlight burn out instead of replacing them when they don't seem as bright as they should. The other day, one burned out while I was driving home at dawn. Got the "dead bulb" warning on the LCD panel but didn't know what it was, didn't have the manual, so I googled the instrument panel icons. Quite a relief that it wasn't something that would kill the car if I finished driving home. I'd been up all night trying to photograph that comet and I just wanted to get to bed.

I also pulled the #385 solar fan relay to double check the solder joints. @PZ was right, I have a fine crack around one pin. Hopefully someone better with a soldering iron than I am can fix it and my blower will work again.

Same for the B5 Audi A4 and C5 A6.

You can buy a replacement line for an Audi. It's longer than needed and gets cut down to fit the V6 or 1.8T. I don't recall the part number, but I used it on my V6 a long time ago.

Well, I technically didn't do anything to my Passat today except look at the front of the W8 and then mumbled some cuss words.
The 'W' and '8' fell off the badge clip and were laying on the ground. This happened overnight by the way. Fortunately, the emblems are still available.
I'll just end up buying a new one as the original is getting pretty brittle.

Andreas, silicone is your friend. ;-)

Funny, the letters on the back of the Golf fell off this past year. It was in a much cooler climate (Ohio) than yours.

My VW emblem is the only thing that hasn't fallen off my car. Knock on wood.
My older son's trunk emblem fell off of his B5.5. Silicone held it on for the last 6 years.

If you use Andreas's silicone of choice, it will last longer than the car. It's currently holding most of my Passat together.
I thought about the silicone as the number and letter were right there laying on the ground. After fidgeting with the badge piece for a moment I realized how brittle it was, so I just said screw it.
I'll just a get a whole new badge for it. It'll be better in the long run.
Just installed a new (to me) Rockford Fosgate 12" Punch P1 subwoofer, just blew the same one a week ago, but lucky me finding the exact same one at a resale store for $50 about 5 minutes away. Back to normal now. Thinking about throwing a 1200W peak Punch P3 in there in the future, I have a 1200W amp that could be used better than for a 300W peak P1, and then I'd throw the P1 into the Jetta, the VW audio in that car sucks, at least it would have some decent bass.
The new rad support, front bumper cover, drivers front fender, wheel well liners, and both headlights arrived… and I’m stuck in the USA in a hotel until Tuesday lol sheesh… lost a long weekend. But! The rear subframe, rear sway bar, rear control arms, all rear bushings, all diff and trans seals are scheduled for replacement on Wednesday when I get back. I don’t have a lift so I found a decent guy I trust in town to do it
