So latley it has been getting alot worse. After a stop i will go push on the gas and it will take a few seconds before even relizing i pressed the gas pedal. I can step on it and it wont go, i can hold my foot opn the gas pettel and sometimes repediatly step on it and it wont got for a while. It happens pretty often and could be quite dangerous. Any advice?

I made mine considerably better by cleaning the air intake temp sensor, located just after the throttle body. This was about a year ago and it's gotten worse since, so I'll have to do it again. This seems like a really crappy design.

I used some spray carb cleaner and a rag.

I'd love to hear more about this brake light thing.

It may be a sticking brake light switch. Have someone behind the car tell you when the brake lights go off.

It's one of the POSSIBILITIES. You push the gas pedal, which has a sensor that tells how far it's pushed. It transmits a signal to the ECU, which reads it, then passes it on to the throttle body. At the TB, the solenoid opens the butterfly as much as the ECU has told it to. A sensor also reads this position, and reports back to the ECU.

Open and shut, right? Wrong. Hence why you need the VAG-COM to test. It could also be a bad cam sensor, or clogged injectors, or a leaky vacuum system. You push the pedal, the problem causes the engine to bog or hesitate, and THEN off you go...

Why do you think so many old-school mechanics yearn for the good-ol' days of carburetors? Those problems were always easy to fix!
