Anyone experience high cruising RPMs on a W8? At about 70mph, it sits at about 2.5 - 2.750K rpm...seems really high for a 5th gear tip...esp. for a V8. My tahoe never gets above 2.25

it's all about tire & rim size and gear ratios.tahoe probally has 323 highway gears.
i dont think our gears are that small, hence the nice passing power of our cars on the highway.

I belive that's about right. No need to worry. You have plenty of power to pass and blow by your tahoe. My company car, Ford Freestyle V6, at 70 mph only about 2.5k rpm, but it's passing power sucks. It's a lame duck, lol.

you think that is bad, the 1.8T is at 3000rpm at 65mph! Makes me want to do the V6 tranny swap to my quattro.

Tahoe has a larger V8 with more low end torque so it's meant to loaf along at low rpms. The W8's horsepower peaks at 6000 rpms and torque at 2750 rpms. It's meant to rev. My 6 speed sits at 3000 rpms at 80 mph. 1st gear is really short - 3.50:1 with 4.11:1 gears.

In sunny old England, with European gearing, I cruise at 80mph at around 2300rpm and 100mph at under 3000rpm. 5th gear in tip gives me 155mph at 4500rpm - but won't go any more - DOH !!

Sure it lets me down 0-60 though, with this Euro gearing........

Anyone know for sure ?

Cheers

Didn't realize they were geared so differently. Probably due to your average highway speeds being higher than ours, you get taller gearing for more relaxed cruising. My 6 speed gives me 171 at 6300 in 6th..

nice - no limiter.... do you get much chance to use it ?

I've hit 155mph only a couple of times (in 4th then drop into 5th to cruise). Often get 140-145mph but run out of road....:nervous:
