I've heard that the W8 has larger brakes than a normal Passat. Which set is bigger and by how much?

I think the W8 uses a 321x22 (mm) front disk, and a 269x22 rear disk, which is thicker because they are vented as opposed to solid.


The GLS/GLX uses a 288x25 front disk, and a 245x10 rear disk.

Both the front's and the rears have different calipers also (with a much larger pad area also)... so the're grabbing harder also. More importantly, the additional area better handles the heat better for less fade.

the front caliper is a lucus HP-2 , and the rear as far as i know is the same caliper as the 4motion v6, i duno about the new 1.8t 4mo.

ROFL!! O.K. Guys let me jump in.. I'm seeing too much misinformation in this thread! I did a detailed write-up awhile back about the W8's brakes.

The W8 Passat uses larger brakes than the V6 and 1.8T versions, including the 4 Motions. The W8 uses the HP2 Lucas Caliper that runs Audi/VW part number 4B3 615 301A rotors (321x30mm) up front and 269x22mm rotors in the rear.

Non W8's use ATE Calipers running 288x25mm rotors up front and 245x10mm in the rear. I've seen newer German V6's equipped with 255x10mm rear rotors, but the offset is only used on those running 82mm wheel bearings. (2004's and up)

Hopefully this answers the W8 brake question.. :thumbup:
