Which pulley are you having trouble with ?
(Refer to diagram in post #1)

If it is the deflection pulley above the crank pulley (it is ribbed), you could replace the bearing in the pulley.
If it is to the left or right of the crank pulley, it should be smooth, and you had the wrong pulley in that position.
Hey thanks for replying I found another diagram. It's the #8 pulley. The part # 071145276 there has to be a substitute for this just can't find one

Appreciate the reply. Only problem is the centerpiece that holds the bearings in place got warped

I've never seen a VR5, but were you able to get a part number? Many times other companies will make parts that VS has stopped producing. You might also check the VR6 belt setup to see if the pulley is similar.
Part # 071145276 and and I've tried three different pulleys nothing worked for different models nothing worked

You might have to see if they will ship to the Bahamas, but these 3 have it in stock and were on the 1st page of a google search.

Hi Guys,

Once again having issues with my Passat. Around 6 months ago my Passat began making weird high pitch noise coming fro the engine, it was the drive belt and it only happen rarely but as time went it would happen more often. Usually while engine is cold once warmed up it would go away. Now it stays even if the engine is hot.

The noise itself sound high pitch and pulsing and quite loud, you could say it's like a squeal.

I think it's coming from the area I have highlighted in the image.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Take the serpentine belt off and see if the noise goes away. If it doesn't it's something in your engine, if it does it's either your alternator, AC clutch or the bearing in your fan.
Nevermind...I was thinking V6...D'Oh.
