I just got a 98 golf gl with 221,XXX miles on it. Engine runs like a champ but I made the mistake of opening the coolant reservoir while the engine was still hot. Coolant splashed everywhere and I noticed it was a burnt orange color so I'm thinking of taking the tank out, cleaning it, refilling it, and installing it again. When I did some research into the cooling system itself I figured I might as well do a radiator flush just so I know one was done in my care.
So I come here today with a couple of questions:
1. Could I use straight G12 to fill the coolant and radiator?
2. If I can only get my hands on 50/50 coolant and distilled water, how many gallons does it take to fill the radiator and reservoir tank so they are at good levels?
3. Does the mk3 have a radiator bleeder nozzle underneath the front of the body like the mk4 does? If not, how would I go about draining the radiator?
4. With all hoses connected and the bleeder nozzle closed (if there is one underneath the body), is the only opening into the radiator through the reservoir tank?
5. At what point in the process would I need to turn my engine on? is it when i am refilling or flushing?
6. Should I use distilled water during the flushing process?
Any replies in the right direction are much appreciated. Thanks in advance y'all.
