Father flaims it was 8 years on the motor and tranny, I thought it was 10. Our extended (on everything else) just ended.

Anybody know?

Worth checking into - are you the original owner?
My 2001 Jetta had a 2yr/24,000 B2B and a 10yr/100,000 drive train warranty.
2002 switched it up a little - you got more B2B, but the drive train coverage dropped considerably.

I have a 99 I bought new. Powertrain warranty is definately 10/100,000.

That's correct. 24/24k bumper to bumper. Also a 12 year unlimited mile corrosion warranty. All for original owner only. Changed in 02'.

Good luck trying to get them to cover a powertrain claim though...

My 2001 Passat likewise has the 2 yr b-to-b and 10/100 powertrain warranty, which I greatly prefer over the newer warranties, which are longer in b-to-b but much shorter where it counts.

I've had several relatively minor powertrain warranty claims honored with no questions asked...most recently was the valve cover gasket at ~96,000 miles.

Have they required service receipts for your powertrain warranty repairs?

So the warranty is only good for the original owner? I have a 2001 V6 Wagon with an oil leak @44,000 miles but we are the second owners. Sounds like a rotten deal.

Warranty has changed over the years. Just call VW's 800 number to find out what is/not covered. My '04 W8 warranty was fully transferable.

Unless you are a family member of the original owner, subsequent owner's get 1/2 of the original 10/100k. So, you would have a 5yr/50k miles warranty which is probably now expired based on the 5 years from the date the car was originally purchased.
