VAG-COM KKL 409.1 USB Interface diagnostic cable for AUDI & Volkswagen - OBD2 / OBDII

I just purchased this item in the Amazon store. I also downloaded VCDS from ross tech.
I watched a tutorial video and went through the virtual manual.
I am having trouble with one of the very first steps, Select a com port.

What I did...
Open blue cable from its mailing package, download vcds lite.
Plug CCM module back into car, connect battery back to car, put keys in ignition cylinder, connect wire to car.
Then I tried to test each port but they all failed. Then I remembered to maybe turn the car into ON.
Turn key to ON position and tried to test ports again with no success.

How does this thing work? I mean, what can I do differently?

Did you set the virtual com port in windows to 1, 2, 3, or 4 ?
And set the port in VCDS-Lite to the same number ?
What message/s do you get when you try to connect and scan ?

I have not set a virtual com port in widows, outside of the vcdslite.
I am looking up how to do that...

I had the same problem as you except I tried switching the COM pprt out side of vcds and a few other suttings but still with no sucsess...

You also need to install drivers for the cable; most OBD cables are FTDI clones. Check Device Manager for any devices that didn't install properly, and use the Update Driver button to fix them.

NO! Virtually all the the disks supplied with those cables are infested with malware.

x2 on "find the drivers on the internet". Those little discs are notorious for being festering Hives of Scum and Villainy. I don't know if it's intentional, or sloppiness, but either way, toss that sucker in the trash. They contain malware, pirated (also malware-infested) copies of VCDS, etc.

Device Manager should give you a hint as to which drivers you need; most use these: Virtual COM Port Drivers

You first need to determine what chip is in your cable, if it is a CH341 chip download the driver from their website,
if it is a FTDI chip download the driver from their website, then download VCDS-Lite from Ross Tech.

Installing the driver will set up the virtual COM port, but you might need to re-set the port to 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Alight, got the computer side figured out with com ports.
I tried to run first scans on 09 Cent Elec and then 46 Central Conv.
Both of those attempts got errors so I then tried the Auto Scan.
I select B5 Passat and watch it go for a minute.
It came up with error saying I need to register for this function but gave me all the below readings anyway.

By the way, I did this with fuse 14 taken out, key in ON position.
Not sure how it needs to be done. I couldn't stand the alarm going off so that's why I took out Fuse14.

I expect you can't scan address 46 because of the fault in the CCM or its wiring.

The CCM box makes a ton of clicking sounds when I have it plugged in and car turned on.
I'm thinking of buying a replacement CCM and wire leads at this point.
