I have a new to me 2000 VW Passat Wagon 2.8L V6 5spd. I am replacing the engine computer with a used unit. The old computer is bad with a burnt circuit board. I have done a little bit of research and have concluded that the registered version of VCDS should be able to program the immobilizer with the new computer.

I'm not familiar with the VCDS software and could use some assistance! Thanks guys.

** Also, is a special VW cable required to connect computer to the DLC? I have a Snap On PassThru Pro that is USB, to OBD2.

There is no immobilizer on the 2000 Passat in the USA. VCDS can program the changes needed if the ECU came from a Tiptronic car. Otherwise, it's plug and play.
