Trunk Won't Open

I know a bunch of people have had problems with their trunk not closing, but I tried to open my trunk yesterday, and it would not. I pulled the door switch while a friend was pulling up on the trunk, if that matters. About a month ago, the bracket holding the mechanism that pulls it open electronically broke, and I welded that back together, but pulling the switch or using the fob still makes noise like it is trying to unlock it. It won't open with the key either though, when I twist it to unlock it, it turns without any resistance like it's already unlatched. I have tried electronically and manually unlocking it while pulling up and pushing down on the trunk, but I can't get it to open. Any ideas as to what the problem is and how I could get my trunk open?

Flip the rear seats down, climb into the trunk, and pull the inside release lever? (Assuming the 2002 has one - otherwise, bring a big screwdriver)
stupid qeustion,
did someone play with the lock out in the driver side door ?
if so it might be in valet mode where it will only open with the master key

id try that first
There is not a release lever inside the trunk, and there is a large sub box back there that can only fit out through the trunk, so it would be impossible to get back there pretty much. And no, the valet lock is not on. Someone actually did mess with that recently, but it just stops the button all together. It still makes noise like it is trying to unlock it now though. And when the bracket broke for the electronic opener, I was still able to open the trunk with the key.
I had to climb in and take off the soft panel. Take a flashlight and check the plastic parts of the mechanism. Mine just popped off, it only seemed to happen when I used the key to pop the trunk. Now I do it manually, it is a 99 aeb.
I'm stumped.

Saws-All or hole-saw and a new trunk lid?

Saws-All the sub box in half to get it out then section it back together?

Or go to a junk yard and take apart another trunk lid to get ideas on how you may be able to get yours to release with the minimum amount of cutting/drilling/damage.

Ask at a body shop that does a good deal of collision work. They may have some tricks to use on jammed latches.
I was able to get the sub box kinda sideways, so I'm going to crawl back next to it and try to get that panel off, haha. Otherwise I will just take it to a shop and see. Thanks.

Thank you so much!! I just discovered mine has been in valet mode for 2 months. I no longer have to climb into the trunk every time I get groceries lol

Hi!

What did you do exactely? I think I have the same problem. My trunk does not open, since I've touched the button in the driver side door.

Thanks in advance for your help!
