tranny developed an immediate leak, and tranny slipping not moving, daughter says shift red led display showed all red. So wet cant really tell much yet, apperars something let go, not coolant lines to rad, dripping seems located central around green lettered metal plate 5HP-19. doesnt appear wet much above starter, but puked a line of fluid up driveway and trans slipping bad. actually appears grayish, but not engine oil. 03 B5.5 1.8T FWD

no leaks leading up to this that I could tell. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated

Or the oil cooler line gave way.
She wont be able to drive it till it's refilled.
Find the leak, fix it, refill and move on.

Edit, just noticed you said no leaking cooler line.
must be an inner axle seal or the cable gland.

If it's dripping at the bottom front of the trans, it's the front seal on the torque converter. Depending on how long it was driven, a new seal might fix it or the front bushing has spun and will be seized to the TC when it is removed. If the bushing comes out, the front pump has to be replaced.

thank you all for the replys.

it was a quick leak, do see a ding in the bottom of the pan, but it doesnt appear to have split thru,

it's not a line, i checked the coolant feed lines they appear ok. , the leak was rather immediate, it wasnt like we had a slow leaker and it let go, were leak free b4 this instance,

a frilend noticed it leaking, as in dang near puking , I'm leaning toward a seal let go.. its just a hard chase, trying to clean all up and find source,
any quick pic on what and where seals to look for,

I have maybe above average mechanical apptitude, but this ones new to me.

I replaced the coolant flow valve on the back of the head against the firewall, thought I might slit my wrist, but got that done, can handle most , just looking for a logical deductive path for the leak.

If the trans cooler lines are dry all the way back to the trans and it is not the pan, the front seal is the likely source. The axle seal on the driver's side can leak, but it would drip all over the trans mount on that side, not so much down the middle of the trans.

Replacing the seal requires removing the trans.

Look through the opening at the bottom of the trans, near the green plate. You will see the flywheel and part of the torque converter. If they are dry, the TC seal should be fine. If they are soaked, the seal is probably shot.

As for the pan, you may not be able to see a visible hole, a small crack will be enough to leak fluid once it warms up and thins out.
