Excuse this Passat newbie question! I've recently taken over a Passat and the previous owner has had many missing parts including trim.
I've searched the parts catalog/dealer-sites, and have tried to find a close-up of a passat on the webs but to no avail...

Is there a molding/trim piece that sits on the top of the windshield?

Attached is a picture of the empty channel I'm speaking about.
Side-note question... does every-bodies windshields start to bubble like that on the top!?

FWIW, the Etka manual description for the windshield reads:

3B0 845 011 S
windshield glass (laminated)
with tinted zone and view
window for chassis number
(with molding)

(This is for the non-rain sensor version)

Mine used to look like that. I've recently had my windshield replaced (last year) and when they put the new bead of glue on the window opening and pressed the new windshield in place those "bubbles" went away.

Now that I think of this I only know of the two trim pieces on the sides of the windshield.
Is there supposed to be a trim piece between the upper portion of glass and the roof line? None of my cars have any in that location.

These two attachments are the only two diagrams I can find.
Mind you this is a B5.5 platform.
I take it from Andreas's comment there may not be a trim piece... anyone else like to confirm?

Item #10 on the second image are the only (2) pieces of rubber trim I have/had on any of my Passat's. I still own 3 of the 5 I've had.

On a side note, my wife just went through the car wash this last weekend with her 2002 GLX and caught that bendy aluminum strip that goes in the roof rack track or whatever it's called. The guy at the car wash was nice enough to retrieve it for my wife. Now it's just a black aluminum pretzel.

Every Passat I have seen had this gap. You are good.

These windshields come with a factory attached lip at the top that presses against the roof, giving it a "U" shape when installed properly. It's not the actual water seal, it's there to divert water and dirt. Urethane epoxy under the glass is what makes the weatherproof seal. I've replaced a few of these windshields, no other trim pieces go there. Just on the sides, which are reusable.

There is no trim piece for the top. The bubbles you see are where the glass wasn't pressed tight enough to the sealant but it's nothing to worry about. I think they all are like that. It's either the winscreen, rear window or both.
