So I did an oil change yesterday on my 2.0 TDI (170HK) and I filled to the stated 4.3 litres. After filling I waited a while and checked my oil, it was too high, I thought that it was probably the filter (paper filter "on top") so I ran the engine for a few minutes and checked again, and sure enough, perfect in the middle.

Today I'm checked the oil again after driving problem free for 25 miles or so, and it's high, the engine was at operating temperature and I waited 3 minutes before I checked.

Should I drain some oil or am I fine?

This may be part of the problem you are having.

My old vehicle's engine was mounted longitudinal, not transverse, and until I realized that fact when checking the oil I always got different readings when checking the oil level because I was not on a flat surface.

On a transverse mounted engine the vehicle should be on a horizontal flat road, but most roads canter left, right, or both to allow rain water to drain.Flat surfaces are hard to find, but I now make sure I check my oil level on a flat surface.

Good luck,
