When the car shifts automatically or if I use the TIP manual, there is a "good slip" from first to second gear but all other gears seem to shift well. This 1-2 slip is most noticable during heavy accelleration, not too bad under normal driving conditions. Is this "slippage" from 1-2 normal or do I need this checked out. I've had the car a week. This Passat is an '03 GLX 4motion with 32,500 miles. Thanks.

Is the problem more noticeable when cold? If so, it could indicate a low fluid level. It's a bit early for a full pan drop and ATF change (going rate ~$300), but it might be worth doing.

IIRC, VW warranties beginning with MY 2002 are transferable to new owners. IIRC the warranty is 4 years / 50k b2b and 5 years / 60k for the powertrain. Take it to the dealer and it should be covered. There's a recent thread on warranties. Do a search.
