I think I'm missing something. Everything I've read tells me to replace the timing belt at 60,000 miles / 96,000 kms.

Went to local VW dealer - and was told that it is recommended to change the 1.8T engine at 112,000 miles / 180,000 kms.

So - is this guy out to lunch ?? I'm at 65,000 miles / 105,000 kms now, and not sure if I'm pushing it to wait until when this tech says it is recommended.

What is the going rate for timing belt replacement in Canada ??

Thanks for any feedback.

Its simple. If you have a warranty that covers catastrophic engine failure, and you can afford two or three weeks of down time, then you can live with it. Otherwise, get it changed at 60K.

Kenny

I paid $700 for the belt and tensioner installed. You might want to replace the water punp also. Did it at 110Mm
