Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Dick likes to work on cars. Dick buys cars on Craigslist for $500 and fixes them. Dick's wife says he has too many cars. Dick buys a car the wife likes. Dick buys a $500 2003 Passat Wagon, 5 speed with a 1.8t with a snapped timing belt. Dick finds a AWM head on an old Audi and puts it in the car. The car starts and drives wonderfully. Dick's wife is pleased. Dick noticed the upper timing cover was missing a chunk and some of the timing belt was exposed. Dick was not pleased. Dick went to the junkyard to get a timing cover. Dick found one. Dick drove him and went to put timing cover on the car. Dick pulled the timing cover off and found: Tire Automotive tire Auto part Automotive wheel system Wheel

Dick was not pleased. Dick put the car in "service position" and took off the timing covers and found: Auto part Engine Fuel line Tire Vehicle

Dick was wondering what could have caused such a near catastrophe, Dick didn't think just a timing cover with a little chunk out of it could cause this havoc. After Dick took the bottom timing cover off he found the cause: Auto part Tire Automotive tire

Dick dropped a bolt while putting the car back together the first time and thought it fell somewhere down the engine or onto the floor of the garage. Dick was wrong. Dick learned two things:

1) put that timing cover back on ASAP.
2) if you drop anything with it open, find it

The moral of the story, don't be a Dick.
