I mentioned to my boss the other day that I used to want a Volvo 240 and he said he had one I could have!

He said it still runs, I have no idea what kind of shape it's in, but it's free!

Does anyone know if parts are still readily available for them. Or any good websites about restoring and maintaining them.

I know little about them, I just like that old brick shape.

edit:spelling

Re: Swedish Brick (B5sport)

An old friend of mine who used to work on my Bimmers once told me that the brake assy of a Volvo has more parts than an entire K-Car.

Have fun.

Aren't they part of the million mile club<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>There's a 60-something one that several years ago had over 1M miles. Mine had something like 335K on it when I returned it to my parents (bought the Passat to have something better that didn't need a bunch of service done on it -- had just reached the point where lots of things were wearing out and needed to be replaced).

that car, except for a few minor changes, was sold for over 20 years.
Parts are readily availble, when I had my Volvo, I got most of the parts cheap off of ebay.
Even the dealers are both reasonably priced, and can get parts within a day or two.

Old Volvos are cool - and there shouldn't be any problems getting part for it. Now, let's hope that it's a 1983/84 242 TIC

EDIT: this is a good place to start for 240 info: http://www16.brinkster.com/towerymt/links.html

You should drop a 5.0L V8 in there!

http://www.swedishbricks.net/ModelFAQ/240V8FAQ.html

I'm amazed at the number of people who actually do this. Would be quite the sleeper.

I miss my 1980 240 Turbo. I swear if I ever find another I'd buy it. Bomber Jacket Leather seat, dunlop racing tires, and I swear it handled as well as my Passat. Yeah I hope he's giving you a 240 Trubo, sweet car, esecialy if it has the intercooler mounted (that sucked to install).

Re: Swedish Brick (3U36)

An old friend from Jr. High's parent's had a 240 wagon. They brought it over from Norway when they moved to the states. In 1987, it had 460-some-thousand miles on it, and I just talked to him the other day... and they still have the car!!!!

810k, and still running.

I gave up changing the brakes on my friends 740. Too different, and I have been changing my own brakes for years.
