In my '97 B4 (VR6 - 52,xxx miles) I have started to get an intermittent rotten egg/sulfur smell inside the cabin. I have noticed it the last couple of days after pulling into my driveway, and this morning just after I parked at the park n ride. Could this be anything else but the catalytic converter giving up the ghost? I have no CELs or other indications that something is afoul in the emissions system. The car easily passed state inspection in November. Any ideas?

if the cat goes bad, a few drive cycles later you will get a CEL

sulfur smell is usually a function of bad gas

winter fuel is oxgynated and varies by state, and by gas station.

advise: try different gas!

You probably have a vacuum leak.

O2 sensor wiring is also a problem on these cars.

Also, the main intake tube sometimes melts away from exhaust heat causing another kind of massive vacuum leak.

You'll get a code soon enough.

thanks for the input. I'll try and poke around the engine compartment and check out the vacuum system.
