Startup idling problem

883 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  DirtySanchez
I have this bad shaking when I start the car up. The revs go up as high as 1100 rpm and after about 5 seconds the car will sputter like the engine is going to die but then it goes back to normal idle. (800 rpms.)

Anyone have any ideas whats causing this? I already replaced my spark plugs and just sprayed the throttle body with a cleaner. Can it be my MAF? Secondary air pump?

Normally this will happen when the A/C is on. Today it was hot in toronto, were you using the A/C at all?
No Aircon. This happens almost always when I start up the car when the engine has gotten cold. Can this be coilpacks?
What year is your car...? How many miles?

Try cleaning your T Body. Usually works like a charm...
what motor do you have? year? millage?
2002 1.8T Passat 60,000 kms...

I already cleaned the throttle body but didnt take it out just sprayed the inside.
Had the same problem...

Natskiboy--

I had the same problem on my 2002 1.8t. We took it to the dealer and there was a technical service bulletin on the 2002 ECU software. They upgraded the software under warranty and it has been great ever since.

Good luck to you..
