Get a can of White Lithium grease...comes in a spray can. It stays where you spray...for a long time. One spray should do a door hinge for a year.

NEVER WD40. It's the most disastrous usage if u use it with your door hidge. It washes the heavy grease away, keeps it lubricated for only a short while and your door starts squeaking even more when it runs away as it has a high viscosity.

White Lithium Grease is the way to go.

i've sprayed mine with silicone lube spray, but the squeaking returns very quickly. is white lithium very different from silicone?

White lithium grease is definitely the way to go. Its heavier than WD40 so its stays put. I actually prefer a tube of it rather than the spray since its easier to control where it goes and you don't end up mopping up any overspray. A tube will last you a lifetime and its relatively cheap. Pick it up at any autoparts store.
