I think OE is NGK. I am running Bosche Platnum +4 on my V6.
The OE for the AEB engine is the 3 prong copper Bosch plug. There is no platinum plug listed for this motor. You can also use Denso(#5061 $1.69), Beru Ultra(Z188), Beru Ultra X(UXF79P), Bosch(F7LTCR $8.99) and Denso Iridiums(5304#4 $12.99) to name a few. By the way the AEB coilpacks are made by Beru(ZS016). http://www.beru.com/english/produkte/produktfinder.php?hersteller=volkswagen&modell=PASSAT+(3B2)&typ=1.8+T&baujahr=10/96-11/00&action=step04
The stock plug on the AEB is the Bosch Super F7LTCR.

I guess you don't plan on passing emmisions testing here. You will need the cat,but can get a high-flow version.

Let me know if you want to GTG sometime,we usually have a good turnout.
