Sounds like a boost leak some where. Lost 2-3 pounds of Boost. PLEASE HELP!!

I thought my B5 was just acting up but now i can see that i have lost these pounds od boost. It sounds like air is leaking from some where. I checked the large hoses going in and out of the intercooler and they are fine. Has anybody seen an intercooler crack? I don't think mine is but there is always a possibility.. Any input on this would help. TIA guys!

The plastic endtanks sometimes crack. The DV could be leaking(fairly common), a hose could have a hole in it or be popped off, and there are some other options.

you sure it's not the line coming from the intake manifold to the DV? that's the most common spot

i forgot to mention.. i have a new forged DV.. i think i am gonna check those endbanks... it's gonne be very hard to tell where this leak is coming from though... If you jack up the car then the boost won't kick in... and u can only hear this leak when the boost is climbing.. i don't want to end up at the stealership asking then diag. the car..

If you have a leak shouldn't it throw a CEL? I think I have a leak also, but no CEL.

What is a CEL? No engine codes are coming up if thats what u mean? I boost is topping out at 15 lbs when it used to top out at 18lbs... The most frustrating thing about it is that u can hear it... i just can't figure out where the hell it is coming from

Check engine light. I have the same problem. I can hear it through the vents. It goes shhhh when my turbo kicks in. I have the day off so I'm going to look hard and see what I find.

THAT'S IT!!! it's that SSHHHHHHHHHHH... took my 3 pounds of BOOST! Let me know what u find dude.... I've been going nucking futs looking for this leak..

I just looked for 10 minutes or so and I just don't know what it is! I can't see any bad hoses. I replaced the one that goes down to the DV already and the small short one towards the back. I just am stumped. I have posted about this before and I can't seem to get an answer. I don't have a boost gauge so I have just told myself that the small loss I have felt was just me getting used to the chip! Someone help us PLEASE!

Could it be our wastegate? I have read that it is common in 98's. Does anyone know how to check it, and where is it located?

the wastegate is mounted on the turbo... i sounds to me like the noise is coming from the driver's side for me though...

Ok, after doing some digging in my engine I found a small L shaped plastic tube right near the dipstick. It is very hard to see. I noticed that one end was cracked and not connected. Of course When I went to remove it the other end also cracked. The part is 058-103-213. It is a secondary air intake tube! This has got to be what the shhh sound has been coming from. I will have it installed on Wed b/c nobody has it in stock here. It costs about $28 and should only take 20-30 minutes to have installed. I'm not going to try myself b/c it is really hard to get at.

I KNOW EXACTY WHAT TUBE U R TALKING ABOUT... MINE IS CRACKED TOO!! THE MY local dealership has it in stock.. I am gonna stop by today and pick it up... I don't think it is oging to fix the SSSHHH cause that tube has been like that for months now... It is a breater tube.

Are you going to do the install? Thats crazy that yours is cracked also. Did you know it was cracked? Mine had a bunch of oil and crap all over it. Hopefully fixing it will do something. Let me know what happens when you replace it.

cool... im getting the part from the stealership after work today... If i don't do it tonight i'll do it tomorrow... Gotta give it plenty of time to cool down.. It's also a pain in the arse to get my hands all up in there...

I got a really bad cut on my thumb when pulling it out. Well not really bad, but it hurt like a SOB! Hopefully our problem will be solved. What year is your car? Maybe I can call Audi and get the part. Do you think its the same number?

I'm having a hard time envisionint this breather hose near the dipstick. I can only think of the secondary air injection hose connected to the airbox. If you get a chance, post a pic. I'm curious what it is and where its located.

Hopefully it'll solve the problem.

I don't have a camera, sorry. You really need a flashlight and you have to look hard to see it. I'm not sure of what everything around is called so its hard to explain. Its shaped weird and is one of the only plastic tubes down in that area. Hope that helps a little.

I have a camera... I will have to put a mechanic light up under there. It is under the intake manifold and next to the dipstick.. u have look really hard to be notice what excactly u r looking at.. I'll probably post some pics by monday.. I SURE HOPE THIS DOES SOMETHING!

I just picked mine up at the Audi dealer. I'm going to try to install it today. I'll let you know. I drove w/o it and when I opened my hood it had spit oil around my engine. That solves the oil leak I thought I had somewhere!
