Well, i bought a used homelink and wanted to install it in my '00 B5. Anyone know how to program it? i pulled the module out of the visor, but there wasn't any switches like in the old garage door openers.

There's some instructions in the manual for this.
It isn't compatible with some garage doors. Mine didn't work with it.
i didn't see anything in my manual. which section is it under?

Hmmm...the installation/programming instructions you need to integrate it into your '00' will most likely not be in users manual.

can someone with a b5.5 help me out here? i followed this:

http://www.clubb5.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=73519&highlight=homelink

i know that there's a signal, since when i plug it in, and open the mirror, the light comes on, and when i close the mirror, it goes off.
Beats me. I don't have Homelink. :p
for those with a homelink, is the light supposed to go on when you press a button on the homelink? i tried pressing some buttons, and the light won't come on
1) Turn the ignition key to "on"

2) Erase the existing settings in the homelink, to do this press buttons 1 and 3 at the same time until the unit starts to flash, may take up to 20 seconds.

3) Hold the garage door opener about 2 inches from the homelink and watching the indicater lamp simultaneously press both the transmitter button and the homelink button you want to use. The indicator light should flash slowly, then rapidly. When it flashes rapidly release both buttons and you should be programmed.

BUT WAIT! theres more.

Some garage door openers have a rolling code, what these means is that everytime the opener is activated the garage door opener automatically goes to a new code to prevent unauthorized openings. If yours has this feature then you will have to press the program or "device learning" button on the back of your garage door unit, press and release this button which is usually red. You know will then have roughly 30 seconds to go back to your car and press and release your homelink button, some times it may require an extra press of the homelink button, but usually one will do it.

Hopefully that should do it for you, some Canadian transmitters require cycling, the US ones do not.
Hope that helps

well, i didn't turn the ignition on, but my understanding was that wiring it on an <01.5 didn't require that. i'll give it a try though.

problem is, the light isn't turning on at all.
Yes, the light should blink when you press the button. Did you follow that wiring diagram that I provided?

Unfortunately, I don't remember the procedure to program the visor; however, I would start by following the instructions that came with your garage door opener. I know I referenced the instructions for my garage door opener when programming mine. In fact, IIRC, the garade door opener instructions are all I needed. Let me know if you figure it out! If you don't, let me know whats wrong and I'll try to help you fix it.
ok, well i plugged in per your diagram, but it won't work. the mirror light works though. i gave the homelink unit power(directly through the module), and it does light up. instead of connecting lines 2&3 of the homelink visor together, i connected 1&2 together, and it'd work intermittently. also, the mirror light won't work when i did this. any thoughts?
I'm sorry that I can't offer more help. I followed that diagram exactly as far as I can remember. I used a simple wire tap and put 2 wires in one end and the one wire in the other. It worked perfectly. It allows the Homelink to operate without having the ignition switched on. When you cut the harness of the existing wires, did you remember which wire is "wire 1" and which is "wire 2"? Maybe you switched them and didn't realize it? If you need more help, maybe GTi 1.8Turbo can help you out. He knows a lot about this kind of stuff.
well, i took a look at the original connector, but didn't see any labelling on it, so i tried it both ways. i'll check with gti 1.8turbo, to see if he has any suggestions.
alright...i got it to work...kindof. i was able to program the first button, but i couldn't program the second one. the light didn't even come on when i pressed the second one. and it's kinda tempermental. sometimes, i'd press the first button, and it'd work, when other times, it won't do anything. anyone else have this problem?
Hmm...sounds like the visor could be faulty. If you can get the first one to work, then you must have the wiring between the visor and the car correct. Were you trying to program the second button to the same garage door opener? Maybe it doesn't allow that? If you can, try it on another garage door opener.

i did try to use a different remote (i have one for the gate, and one for the garage). oh well, i'll try to reset it, and see if i can program to the 2nd one.
alright, i got it to work correctly, and am now using both the first and second buttons successfully 8)

thanks to all, especially 4MyPassat for your help!
