Since you guys love oil questions... LiquiMoly Synthoil 5w40 or Toptec 4100 5w40?

I've done much searching but no real answers to my question. I have an ATW 1.8t with 190k and have been using LiquiMoly Synthoil Premium 5w40 for quite a while. Always really happy with the oil until about 3500-4k miles when it starts to burn it off. I'm a big fan of LiquiMoly and can get it locally through NAPA so I'd like to stick with it. Their Toptec 4100 5w40 is a semi-synthetic blend that runs a little higher than the Synthoil and is supposedly formulated for turbocharged applications. Can't find any information on here, Vortex, or BITOG on this specific oil in the 1.8t. Any of you have any experience with it?

Ah yes, semi-synth, pay synth prices for synth diluted with dino oil. :poke:
From the Liqui Moly website;

"Intended use

As well as numerous manufacturer's specifications, Top Tec 4100 meets the latest requirements of BMW and Mercedes Benz for Euro IV diesel-powered vehicles equipped with a soot particulate filter (status: 10/05).

Also at NAPA is the 0W-40 Liqui Moly, that's what I use and it is full synthetic. Haven't burned any oil in the last 2.5k miles. You might also see fuel mileage increase a little bit due to the lighter weight. It might not be on any list I've seen, but I've run it for the last 10k miles and it's been a complete non-issue.

Yeah, oil questions are easy to answer with the "right" searching, any oil on the VW502.00 list is what you should use! Liqui moly 5w-40 is on this list!

Thanks for the replies. I've read all of the technical data from their website and pretty much every oil FAQ on this website. I've used probably 6 or 7 different 502 spec oils over the years but they all start to burn late in the change interval. Was just particularly wondering if anyone had experience with the 4100 being better suited for higher-mile cars.
The oil you have been using is good for this engine, but is not technically "full synthetic" according to LM. As vbora mentioned, if you like the company and want to stick with them, use their 0w40. I forgot it's name, but I think it's in a black bottle. I picked up a couple jugs a while back of LM 5w40 full synthetic, but it's only labeled that way, it's really the same thing you've been running. They have I think at least 3 or 4 labels for the exact same oil in the US. I bought it because I got it for $25 per 5 liter jug. Even if it isn't full synthetic, it still is VW 502 approved.

This is what I use! No oil loss thus far, with working PCV, new VCG, new CCT gaskets, etc. The difference on the bottle you'll note is that it says "Synthoil Energy" this indicates it being a full synthetic oil according BITOG forums, and Lubro-Moly website itself. While the 5w-40 works and is in fact on the approved list, it is NOT full synthetic and that is indicated on the bottle with "Synthese Technology" for the 4100 and "Synthoil Premium" for the 5w-40 which turns out to be a Group III oil. Thank you, I'll give the 0W40 a try next time around. The 5W40 Synthoil Premium is listed as fully synthetic by every vendor that carries it and by LM on their website, until it was replaced by "Synthoil High Tech 5W40" which I can only assume is the same thing. Thanks for making me aware that it's not truly a full synthetic!
Thanks vbora01, good information! Will definitely give it a try. Seems weird to me to go to an even lighter weight oil as the mileage gets high. I'm used to going thicker as my old beaters went way up in mileage haha.
