Been meaning to acquire one of the oil-suckers to do my own oil changes (from the top), but procrastination finally led to realization that that would have to wait for the _next_ oil change.

Had tried Leith for my 10k mi service, and wasn't impressed (9 return trips before everything was "right") except that they took appts.

Being on contract, geographically nearer to SS, I decided to suck it up and suffer another expectedly bad service there. I called on Tues, was told they were taking appts, and they could get me in at 8am on Thurs (had been times when it was 2+ weeks). And even better it was a "true" 8am appt, not their normal show-up-at-7:30am-and-wait-in-line-with-everyone-else "appt" that they used to offer.

They now have some kind of deal where they make you walk around the car with them (or a free oil change) and do a mini-inspection when they check you in (not sure where this idea comes from, but seems silly), so I dutifully walked around the car with the service person, verified it had 4 tires, shrugged, and headed up to the lounge to wait.

At ~8:40 they called my name, car was ready. Having been a 1.8T owner since 99' I have NEVER had a VW dealership fail to overfill my oil (even after pointing it out to the serice managers so they could correct things before I came next time), so I headed out to check. I almost fell down.. filled exactly to the middle of the hash marks.

Nothing "superior" about this service (no free shoe shine, or breakfast buffet), but I have to say its one of the few flaw-free VW dealership services that I've had in 18 years of VW ownership (most of those services being at SS).

The only down side is that their oil change prices went from ~$25 to $45 (yikes), so I will definitely be changing my own at that price ($25 was worth it to me), but maybe, just maybe, SS is turning around from their years of lackadaisical service. Thought the locals might want to know.

I guess the "walk around" is to prevent people from claiming damage to their car.

Is it just me, or did they just short you about half a quart of oil?

Is that for synthetic oil? If so, not a bad deal. If dino juice, well....

LOL, I'd rather be "shorted" half a quart, than the overfill that I am used to getting. Topping off is easier than draining (at least until I get one of the oil-removers)

And that was for dino.

Well DUH!

We have had cars parked alone on the lot for 20 minutes where NO ONE has come near, sat in, driven, or touched the car in any way at all, and then owner comes in and immediately sees some dent he didn't notice before. It is, of course, damage caused by the technician who never touched the car to begin with.

That's me...."Master of the Bleeding Obvious." :D

To be honest, I wished more places did that. It would keep everything above board.
