Hi again, I've been reading about Seafoam and I can't find anything conclusive about JUST putting it in the gas tank only. I just filled it with premium (always 92 or 93 octane) and I used Lucas deep fuel clean about 3,000 miles ago, but I don't feel or see any difference. I watched YouTube videos and saw that it did little to nothing and then watched Seafoam videos and saw it worked very well. I want to use the Seafoam on my car, But I don't know if I need to change the oil after the tank of gas or not. I don't want to change the oil I just want it in the gas tank and that's it. Is that possible?

When it's time for my oil change I will be using it in there too but that's another 1,400 miles so I don't want to put it in until the day of, and then drive it a little with the Seafoam in and then get an oil change.

I've never been a fan of Seafoam and I'm sure I would not put it in my oil. If you are running a VW approved full synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or Castrol 0w-40 or 5w-40 that's all you need.

For gas treatments Chevron Techron is the go to additive.

Now what you should do is clean the throttle body and intake. Assuming you haven't done this already. It's an easy DIY project.

the guy did a video with techron as well and it also did little to nothing.

I would never trust myself to do that. Seems like a great write up, but I just don't trust myself on taking my car apart.

Not sure what oil is being used. I had to add a quart myself though because it was low. I put in Mobil 1 0w-40

Maybe I'll see if my step dad will be willing to help me. I doubt it though.

A single YouTube video clearly overrides years of industry experience (GRIN) I rather think I wouldn't want to run something through my fuel system strong enough to show immediate and obvious results on a low-resolution video.
so you wouldn't want something that's cleans out your engine well? He did every type of fuel cleaner out there and showed each piston before and after and the Seafoam definitely did the best. He tried it on a lawn mower first and the piston looked fanaminal so then he did end up using it in the car. I also have been reading many reviews on it. However, I just don't know if I need to change my oil if I use it only in my gas tank or not.

It's really pretty simple to do. Get your dad or a neighbor to help. You will need to do a throttle body alignment when you finish.
Or, you can have a VW specialist do the same process, they just use a commercial version of the same type kit and charge $125-$150 I would guess.

my step dad yelled at my for wanting to put a fuel additive in, I highly doubt be will help me. :/ I am PMing someone on the forum here (I can never remember his username. It's der something) and he lives 20-30 minutes from me which isn't bad. I am trying to set up a day with him to read any codes in my car and change the locking features of my doors. I'll ask him about my throttle body. I was also told yesterday by two people at Advance Auto Parts that I might need a linkage?

do not listen to them or the guys at Autozone. Great places to buy oil, cleaners, light bulbs, some chemicals and get your car scanned for fault codes. But they are Not VW specialists so get your codes write them down and post them. Your car is "drive by wire" so there is no linkage as such.

I'm getting emission codes still. We think it's my maf sensor and it might be leaking, but also my car doesn't start sometimes. Like it'll crank and fire and then die and then I turn my key and it starts up rough and then is fine.

My father would have, as well. Difference is, he was a chemist who designed the additive packages for motor oil.

All I can tell you about use of any additive is to follow the instructions on the package. I doubt very much you'd want or need to change your oil after putting something in the gas tank. As to your specific problems - MAF problems, leaks, failure to start, emissions codes - it's unlikely in the extreme you're going to solve them with something poured from a bottle. Repeat after me: Get DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) read and report the numeric codes - not their explanations - here.

I have heard great thing about redline fuel system cleaner. It has more P.E.A than most fuel system cleaners on the market today. It's supposed to be some of the best fuel system cleaner on the market from what I hear. As for oil addatives Marvel Mystery Oil is great.
