It's come done to a rhino rack or a Yakima setup. The rhino rack "aero" bars are $400. The Yakima "aero" bars are $550. I don't mind spending the extra money on the Yakima if it truly is better. I have heard a few horror stories about rhino but even more fantastic reviews. Does anyone here have any experience with them.?

I plan on re-using my Whispbar from my '99 passat wagon on the '07 wagon, but those are both wagons with the rails already in place.
And I got those whispbars on an awesome deal from Amazon for $90 each.
The whispbars are totally silent on my '99 wagon.
So, I'll recommend the whispbars, but I don't really think it makes a big difference.

I bought my whispbars from Amazon, I got a crazy good deal.
But it looks like it is $399 at the moment, youch.

I paid like $100 each.

I have to say, the rear fits fine with S43, but I'd probably recommend an S44 or S45 for the front. The front seems to be wider apart than the rear, which is different from my '99 wagon, where the front and back were exactly the same size.

A pair of S43 will work, but the front is not quite as secure as the rear.

Okay, update,
The S43 really don't work in the front, it is just too loose. :(

I just drove across the country (hello boston!) with a cargo box on top, but before I did, it was wobbling like crazy on the S43, so I traded in @ Rerack PDX, ($100 for used racks, suck!) and got a pair of the S53.

The S53w are the "correct" version for the B6/3C Passat Wagon, however, they are still ... not as sturdy as I would like.

It was good enough to take a loaded Cargobox across country, going 80 mph in Wyoming/Utah/Idaho.. and nothing fell apart, but it was not as sturdy as I would like.

So bottom line, S53w is correct, it has a longer front bar.. the S43 bars are the same lenght - and just too short to fully support weight on the Front end of a B6 Passat. :(
