SO i have a 2001 awm 1.8t passat and i am having a problem with getting a misfire to go away!
IT started with a random misfire on cylinder4 i then replaced the plug nothing happened and then replaced the coil and the misfire went away but sadly it came back for cylinder 3 then 1 and back to 2
so i replaced all the coils and the misfire still came back so i brought it to the dealership and they said it was my maf due to my KN filter so i bought a new filter and maf but the msifire came back shortly after driving it around for a day i just recntly chnaged my IAT and the new maf seems okay but now i havd a code for the maf having a high voltage rate
i just took the car out reattached the maf as i unhooked it and the misfire went away but as i said i took it out and i sawpped all the coil packs and never got one misfire but i only got like 2 pounds of boost when 8 is nromal and allmy vaccum lines are great shape


my codes are
P0300- random msifre saved
P0103- MAF circuit HI input

You have a dirty or faulty MAF sensor, or its wiring or connector is faulty.

All right I will check into the maf connected as the previous owner broke the clip to keep it down an as well my maf connected has 4 good wires but I have a black wire that is broken and I'd assume it's the ground but seems to have no place to be put in the connecter as the fifth hole for the wire is filled and no connecter on other side but the maf has 5 connection points

Use a Q-tip and some Isopropyl alcohol and gently clean the MAF sensor. The CRC cleaner will not do a good job with this sensor. Take it out of the plastic holder and just be careful with it. It is help in with two tamper proof screws but a good pliers takes them out easily.

re: what he said. if it's got a warranty, take it back to where you bought it.

if it's an aftermarket part, chances are high it's crap-tastically failed due to bad handling.

UPDATE: so I drove the car and had check engine light fixed I got 11 codes!!
P0037,P0031,P0136,P0135 all relate to my 02 sensors ik I have to replace my 02 sensors due to my misfires
P0445 which is what I think caused my misfires in first place now that I think of it the EVAP purge valve
P0102 is my maf problem (circuit low)
P0300 random misfire
P1289 is this my diverted valve or N75?
P1472 idk where to begin to look
P0418,P0412 are related to my SAI solenoid
Sadly I think I fucked up my own car bc when I took maf connector off car stalled which probably fried shit also that black Wire I thought was not connected was nothing

I also just want to add I did stupidly dis connect the maf connector while car was running so I probably fried and caused all the short to ground codes as they weren't there before I messed with the maf bc I had my codes checked before messing with maf

Disconnecting the MAF while running would not fry anything. It is a common procedure for diagnosing issues sometimes. Open the ECU box and check the wiring. That is a lot of codes all of a sudden.

What else have you pulled apart or disconnected/reconnected in trying to figure this out? Take pictures of the maf wiring, Coil wiring, N75, purge valve on the airbox, etc. I wanna see the condition of the engine bay.

I have not touched anything other then the maf while car was running the only thing I could think of is that one of my grounds could have come loose causing the shorts to grounds on most of the codes I was just gonna replace everything XD I'm at work currently but once out I will take the pics you asked for

Only reason i mention my grounds is bc of the fact I have had my alternator battery and starter all checked but my battery still dies if left connected over night I've even removed all fuses that draw with battery off and still drained next am but might be a different issue entirely

Is their any code relearn with a new maf? Tried a reset by disconnecting the batt? I've used CRC maf cleaner to clean mine: gently using a toothbrush on the screen.

I have car disconnected right now as I have done for weeks due to it draining over night and yes I've checked voltag with a meter and it's usually just below 9 or 8 volts and won't crank so I disconnect and reconnect in am I am not driving it right now due to codes I'm looking it over Saturday and will give a update with pics

The random misfires on the AWM's, I have had 3 can be caused by A) the wiring that makes a 90* turn into the connectors for the coils, even if they look ok, they can be brittle and still cause the issue. Second is the ground wires on the head right by the #1 cylinder connector. These may look ok too but pull them off, give them a good cleaning and look over, I've had both cause misfires in the past.

N75 = boost control solenoid - controls the wastegate - mounted into the turbo inlet hose
N80 = evap purge valve - on top of airbox

Have you figured out why the voltage is so low? What is the battery voltage after you've driven it for twenty minutes? Does the battery voltage go down as the car is sitting?

I'd solve that problem first. Measure the drain when the car is off, and take it from there.

I'm sending it to the garage to fix these code issues gonna get it in to weekend hopefully
Anyways the voltage stays at 14 running. And yes goes down slowly after shutting car I've checked lights for glovebox trunk door jams and pulled all fuses that draw when car is off but still died so something else is staying on I'd assume but right now focusing on making car drive able and BTW when I drove it to my grandfathers to try and get to the wastegate which I now know is on the backside under neath the mani I don't have any misfires while driving just codes and only 2PSI
