It truly is one problem right after another when owning two B5's. Anyone know if replacing the ignition is a DIY possible job?

Yes the one you picked out will work i just installed on my 98 last week real easy all you need to do is i used http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ as a guild
1. disconnect battery for safety
2. get a phillips head screw driver and unscrew the srews on the side of the steering wheel ( there in a tunnel somone ) towards the back side of the wheel
3. turn the wheel to 90 degress so you can remove the lil phillips head behind the steering wheel ( one on each side of the wheel ) i used a lil screw driver
4. remove the allen bolt on the underside of the sterring wheel ( forget size)
5. sitting in driver seat take out key and whiggle the under side of the steering wheel trim loose ( be careful when doing this as you are working around airbag wires )
6. the ingition switch is screw on to the key cylinder with red paint remove paint with screw driver and under scews undo the wire harness and plug new, test to make sure everything is ok and reassembly

p.s. you can repaint the scews if you want ( i didnt)
