Okay, going in for 40K Service on President's Day. Since they are going to have my car most of the day anyway, I thought I may as well get the key I bought from a member here programmed.

Now only one remote is original to the car (bought it used), I wonder if its worth my while to buy new batteries and have them changed out before programming. Some posts say its not neccessary since somehow the batteries are recharged through the key during driving, and that new batteries don't increase the range of the keys. I figure I can still drive the car if the batteries are dead, so are there any advantages/benefits to changing the batteries now?

No - the batteries are not charged. Just run them till they're dead. If they go dead, it won't hurt anything - just have to use the key until you get new batteries. Easy to put in. You probably won't notice any difference in range with new batteries.
