Keep getting the code for the Bank 1 Cam Position Sensor even though I replaced it. I finally got time to investigate and found the new CPS mangled and the impulse rotor bent. Here is the image:

So I need to replace the sensor and impulse rotor. I have a couple of questions related to this job...

1. Is it necessary to be at TDC or anything special that needs to be done to remove the bolt for the impulse rotor?

2. What torque should I reinstall the bolt at?

3. There is a bolt hole on the rear timing belt cover that is in the way when trying to replace the sensor. (Circled in RED) Do I need to remove the rear cover to replace the sensor? Is there a trick to getting around this rear cover bolt? I suspect I forced my way around when I replaced the CPS last time and this is the result.

Seems like it should be as simple as removing the current impulse rotor with that 1 bolt, cleaning things up, replacing and putting in a new CPS. Is there anything I am missing?

You don't need to be at TDC, just remove the bolt and replace the ring. The cover has to be slid in at an angle under that metal tab. Make sure the seal behing the ring has not been damaged.

I got the impulse rotor and CPS. Replaced the rotor and torqued the bolt to 18.5 ft lbs. Put the CPS in and got it working again. Took only a few minutes and I am now free of the CEL for the first time in a long time.
