just wondering, is anybody out there using aftermarket bulbs (such as silverstars or hoen xenonmatch) in their non-projector lenses? i have 1998 passat, want brighter light, and was thinking of getting either one of those.

ive got the silverstars and to be honest, i noticed maybe a slight difference over stock. Im not sure if PIAA makes bulbs in H7 format but id recommend them as #1 choice.

Check out powerbulbs.com they are located in england. They have a good selection of bulbs and many people here have bought from them including me.
I had the Philips Blue vision. They were very bright. You also get a free set of w5w bulbs for your side markers.

i am not fond of the philips blue vision, i ran them as my fogs. i used them normally, however in less then 1 year, both burned out. there is a new version of sylvania bulb called silverstars ultra that i just recently saw as well. powerbulbs is a great website, check them out.

another thumbs up for powerbulbs in the UK. great selection, good prices (although the exchange rate stinks right now), usually have freebies, and free shipping (which is surprisingly fast).

i had philips vision plus bulbs in my old car and was very pleased with the increased light output over the sylvania cool blues i bought at pep boys.

I've have the Silvania SilverStars H7s. I've found that they burn out faster than I would expect, and I've disabled my DRL loooong time ago.

I'm considering other alternatives.

my bulbs

I also have silverstars. One of them burnt out on me after 8 months. I bought a new pair and I am waiting for my new bulbs to burn out. I will buy PIAA'S next.

I have silverstar H-7s on my 98, and they are noticeably brighter to me. My fogs have stock bulbs and the difference in color looks kinda silly, so I would upgrade those bulbs at the same time if you care about that sort of thing.

I've been very pleased with both PIAA Extreme White bulbs and Hoen's XenonMatch H7 bulbs. Both performed very well but the Hoen's are less expensive than the PIAA's and the European Silverstars. Go with the XenonMatch bulbs!!
