My monsoon speakers are rattling my doors haha. Well at least the front right passenger door, how can i insulate the door or something to get rid of that sound?
Take the loose objects out of your door pocket. That's not a joke; when I got my '04 I had a rattle in there that turned out to be a couple of coins under the rubber pad. (You do have the rubber pad, right?) Failing that, the door should not rattle - if it is, take off the panel and see what's come loose. No additional insulation needed.

That system sucks. try an aftermaket radio and some MB quarts. You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

I second Scotts reply. Every time my wife leaves something in my door, I go crazy from the rattle. Works every time.

It really doesn't. As far as factory systems go, it's quite good - superior, IMHO, to the factory-optional Bose offered in some cars. Monsoon could actually use a (small) real subwoofer, to flesh out the bottom end - as opposed to the funky "feed extra bass to the rear woofers" trick.

Oh, of course you could do better with higher-end aftermarket gear - I used to install car stereo systems for pay. But you'd have to spend a good bit, and it wouldn't look factory - and would likely attract thieves.

Here is a little secret of mine. It is called Peel and Seal. Remove everything from your doors, and apply this straight onto the metal frame. Cover the door in it. It is exactly the same thing as Monster Mat, FatMat, etc. but at 1/10th of the cost. It works just as well, if not better. No adhesion issues, smell, or other problems, like a lot of those car stereo mats have. It is very effective at reducing noise entering the vehicle.

I lived with the same issue for 10+ years except with my driver's door. But this past summer I decided to preemptively R/R the window regulator clips. Upon disassembly I discovered that one of the four factory spot welds that holds the bottom of one of the regulator tracks to the regulator metal backing was no longer secure. JB weld and a clamp overnight, and replacing the regulator clips, was all that it took to stop all the buzzing and vibration I had lived with since literally soon after I bought my B5 in March 1999.

So have I my friend (installed for a living). It is good for factory, but pales in comparison to even entry level aftermarket equipment. My Avic-Z2, MB quart reference front stage and single RF 10" subwoofer blows it away. Granted, that stuff isn't entry level, but you get the picture. :wrench: Good thing I don't really worry about theft.

Im most likely going to spend around $100 for the back speakers, any good options?
First, tell us what you want to do. Just replace a bad rear speaker? VAGuy may have another suggestion, but if that's it and you only have $100, just replace it with an OEM Monsoon speaker. It's an integrated system with speaker-specific equalization built into the amp; you shouldn't replace parts piecemeal. If you change one of the speakers for something different, you should change them all; and you should then change the amp as well.

Next week, I'm going to have all 4 speakers replaced and an amp installed in my 2001.5 GLX. My left rear speaker is silent, so I figured that I would swap out the whole system. I just had a Kenwood nav/sat/dvd head unit put in today to replace the stock Monsoon system. I'm probably going to have some Dynamat put in each door at the same time I have the speakers put in.

In any case, I'll have three working speakers (woofer + tweeter) pulled out of the car. If you want to make an offer for one or more of them, send me a PM. I have no idea what these components are worth, so I'll entertain anything that sounds halfway reasonable.

I apologize if I'm violating any rules with this message...I'm new to the forum (and to my car!).

I was having trouble with my rear Monsoon speakers causing vibrations. It was so bad that when I first purchased the car, I thought the rears were blown. I took my door panels off and found that there's some plastic rings with a rubber gasket on it that is supposed to seal against the speaker, and these were rattling on my panels. I remedied the issue by popping them off and putting some foam between the panels and the rings. Now my rear Monsoons hit clean.

Lets see what scotts13 has to to say :D
(Heh) I'm not an expert, I'm just old and have done a lot of stuff. I'd rather buy from a "person" instead of an eBay slimer any day. But still, check the part numbers and general appearance.

BTW, the speakers are riveted in place. Be prepared to drill out and replace the rivets. People who have re-mounted with screws, even with lock washers, have complained about rattles.

MB Quart isn't what they used to be. Also Rockford subs sound terrible.... if you're looking for loud noise then I guess it's an ok option, but anything SQ related they just sound terrible. Granted any sub can sound "ok" with a proper box built and tuned for it. But I've never been too happy with a RF sub.

I'm running a set of Alpine SPX-17PRO's in the fronts and it looks pretty much stock and definitely sounds better then the stock speakers I had, but I didn't have the Monsoon system. The Monsoon system was pretty good and I don't think budget line audio gear would beat it, now mid-high level stuff for sure. Of course you can always get deals, my speakers are some of the best Alpine makes and I got them for like 200 bucks sealed in the box? So it doesn't have to cost a ton. But for most (unless you have the cursed audiophile ear like some of us) the stock setup is perfectly suitable.
