Someone told me that the tiptronic will shift at the redline even if you don't make it. Is this true? I'd rather not blow up my engine trying. Thanks.

in "D" or tiptronic, the tranny will automatically shift at redline with the "old strategy" which is what the car should be set to by the factory. you can set it to the "new strategy" which will still shift at redline in "D", but will not upshift at redline in tiptronic, but instead just bounce off the rev limiter.

Well, yes, except that car comes set to "new strategy" which shifts at or before redline. Old strategy is what you set with VAG-COM and will bounce of the limiter.
