Recommendations on rear window shade?

4501 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  gobluetwo
My wife and I are expecting our first little one any day now, and we have noticed how much sun his car seat is getting.

I have never even thought about these things, so I don't know what to look for. Please post your experiences and/or recommendations. Also, please post the brand and how much you paid for it.

It will be going on a 1999 Passat sedan.

Thanks in advance.

My 99 GLS has a shade built into the deck behind the rear seats. It pulls up and covers the rear window.

As far as the rear side windows, I don't know.
There was an OEM type retractable window shade for the sides too. I am not sure, but it might be adapted from an A6. I have seen several on Passats on this site.

Are the windows tinted? I find the 3M tint (35) to be pretty good for sun reduction and it still has good visibility for night driving.

We have the rear window shade, but I'm not too concerned about sun coming in from that area.

We do have the windows tinted, I just want to have one in case it's not enough.

Sorry, I wasn't specific. I was looking for a rear passenger window shade.
You should be able to find a genric one at Walmart from safetyfirst or something company.
I've never seen that kit before. That looks GREAT! Looks like it would match the rear window shade too.
Window tint

I think you should get a darker window tint which will still depend on the tint limit law in your state. It will surely protect you and your family from harmful UVr Check the current tint law in each state at www.TintBuyer.com They will also provide you quotations and will help you locate the best professional tinter near your area. Good luck and Congratulations in advance
These are the OEM B5 shades, side/rear window:

3B5 064 362 - Sedan set of 2 shades
3B9 064 362 - Wagon set of 2 shades

The rear window shade for the sedan:

Options I can think of range from expensive (see OEM shade kit) to the relatively cheap (cheapo baby shades or a layer of static cling window tint over the already tinted window).
