First alittle back ground on my Passat. Brullen Exhaust w/ Downpipe, Evo Intake and Diverter valve, GIAC Chip, Bilstein/Eiabach suspension, A4 Sport 17" rims w/ Dunlop SP9090. The rest is show that I can think of right now.

I was driving normal when an M3 convertable with the hard top on pulls up next to me with some young punk driving. We are both rolling so I stomp on the gas just to mess around. I know I cannot beat him but it was a nice night out and I felt like having some fun. Well, he pulls behind me and is on my ass. I get an opening in the little bit of traffic there was and I go. He Catches me at the next light and he starts reving his engine. I figured lets see how bad he is going to beat me. We both launch but I launch bad. All tire spin and find myself in the red zone fast. I shift to second and I find myself in red zone again as if my clutch was not grabbing. There was an awefull smell of burnt clutch. I was sooooo pissed. What the hell is that? Is that what people call limp mode? it drove normally right after that but it was weird that it happened at all. that is the second or maybe third time that has happened to me. If I really think about it it probably happened when I spun tires like that and ended up in the red. Again, the clutch smell was BAD. Any idea's?

Older M3 or Newer M3... If it were an older one you might have been able to keep up. If it was a newer one you were just wasting your time and gas. Unless you have a big Turbo upgrade it ain't going to happen, actually a waste of time..... Just my opinion... Just talking from experience..

Never mind people, I will just blame it on the shitty factory clutch....
If you redlined it, didn't go anywhere, and smelled burnt clutch, what do YOU think it was?

:poke:I don't think your clutch has anything to do with it.... Though you might want to have it checked out ... I assume you know how to drive a manual and therefore something might be going on with the clutch. Upgrade to a stage 3 clutch and I have a feeling your still going lose... Your short about 80HP!!

Just busting your chops... I was stupid enough to go up against an M5 the other day... I kept up nicely... 4 car lenghts back!! Oh btw... I have an automatic... :D

Unite, I definately know how to drive manual. I have owned nothing but a manual. Driving is not an issue.
AlexNYC, no I did not dump my clutch at 5000 rpm.

And for the last time, I DO NOT THINK I CAN BEAT AN M3. Read the original post.

the M3 is obviously a sports car, right? What BMW's, if any can the B5 keep up with, or is a great competitor?
