Nice little sucker. Reflex Silver, R logos everywhere. For a fleeting minute I was thinking... new car... LOL

It was more dope than I expected it to be. I haven't paid much attention to it, but damn if it's not a hot little ride.

It sure is. The :D effect is very high. I love mine, despite what the STI/EVO crowd thinks :poke:
I treat R32 as a "baby B6 S4" since their characters are similar. If you want boy racer performance looks, go EVO/STI. If you want understated elegance performance, go R32.

Exactly, well said and right on point.
it's a real looker, but i don't think the performance is on par with the cars it is pitted against... both the STi and the EVO will mop it up on any kind of course...

Be careful when making such broad generalizations

Any kind of course, not necessarily
is that a stock vehicle...?

any car can be built to go faster...

I hope you're not implying that those race results are in any way indicative of the relative performance of the vehicles outside the vacuum of the technical specifications of the series. I.e., touring car racing is about drivers and teams - the organizers make sure the cars are all relatively equal by tweaking the list of allowed modifications. For example, looking at the specifics for this series, the R32 is allowed a 400lb weight advantage and a higher rev limit over the EVO VII RS, even though of course in production the R32 is the heavier vehicle. However this keeps coming up and you keep saying you didn't buy the R32 for it's absolute performance but you still try to compare it to the STI and EVO :p The R32 is a great RX-8/G35 competitor.

Is it just me, or is it not listed on vw.com?

I assume as stock as the EVO and the STI that finished later. Check the lap time a bit more.

Mac, I have never tried to compare the the R32 to the STI/EVO. The reason is that they are not comparable. The R32 was built for the Euro market and was not intended to be a competitor to the EVO/STI US market.

It is a luxo-cruiser with strong performance. I am fed up with blanket generalizations like this guy made. You are smart enough to know what I am talking about, and why.

You assume wrong.. as I mentioned :)

Understood.. it was rather inflamatory post whoring.

the R32 is a competitor with the EVO and the STi... don't kid yourself... 240hp AWD...? yeah it's a luxo-cruiser...

and i hold to my original statement... the Evo and STi will destroy the R out of the box...

that's not a "blanket generalization"... it's just fact...
So, the horsepower and drivetrain is what puts it in the same class as the EVO and STI? Hmm. Is the Jeep Cherokee in the same class as the EVO/STI? It does have 200-odd horsepower and AWD..

The R32 has a classy, entry-lux interior/exterior and 'bahn burner suspension tuning. Its a sports GT, like the RX-8, G35C, MB C-Coupe, etc. It's not trying to compete with the EVO/STI on raw performance and it doesn't.
Jwilker,
You like the silver one do ya. Now, go back there and test drive the Black one out front. I DID!!!!! Let's just say Emil looked like he needed a change of pants when I made the dealer test circuit a lot more fun at 70 MPH. And yes, you can break all 4 tires loose. :D

And yes, I almost bought one this weekend. I have been debating constantly since I test drove it on Wednesday.

Pros:
It is already modified other than a coilovers and a kit, I am satisified.
I already have the sound system ready with MFD Navi.
Still cheaper than what I want to do to the Passat to get that kind of handling and performance.

Cons:
I love my Passat. It is a looker, and I enjoy driving it.
I have done so much to my Passat. I would hate to throw it away after so much time and care.
Pain in the ass to part out. Interior, Gauges, Suspension, etc. The only good think is all but the interior can go to my other Passat.

Decisions!!! Damn it. :(

one of my co-workers just got one (R32) in black. I haven't ridden in it yet, but the exaust tone is very sweet. I'd buy one today if it were 5 years old, can't afford a new one!
