Looking at a local 99 Passat 1.8t for sale, it has a few issues that are not a big deal but one problem that he posted says" when the car is stopped, it won't shift into any gear unless the engine's off so have to turn it off at all stop signs etc to put it into first - shifts fine once it's over about 10 mph. " Any info on what this could possibly be? It did mention that the sunroof did have a lean so maybe CCM? Thanks for any input.. :thumbup:

Guessing manual tranny. In the best case there is a problem with the clutch hydraulics not allowing full clutch disengagement, and the solution would be a good bleed and refill (and fix the source of the problem, such as master or slave cylinders). In other cases, you'll need to drop the tranny and replace the clutch, and possibly the tranny if the synchronizers are shot.
