I believe my wife's upper radiator hose is leaking. But I don't know if the hose itself is leaking or whatever it is attached to, motor side, is what is leaking.

What exactly does it attach to, is there a gasket on what it's attached to, and does anyone have any photos of what it is attached to? Recently got the car and not wanting to have to rip the whole front end off, especially if there is an easier way for me to get in there.

is it leaking at the radiator side of the hose, or the other side? there is no gasket on either side, iirc. the rad side is a PITA to get seated.

It's leaking on the side that goes downwards into the engine compartment. Rad side I believe has a O ring and it isn't leaking there. At the moment we have a fairly large leak from somewhere along either that or underneath the intake. I blindly felt around on it and felt a zip tie. Went to the junkyard today to look at other motors that had pieces missing and they all seem to have the same zip tie just hanging on there.

May not be the radiator hose at all . My 1998 a6 had a bad leak ( looked like the rad hose at first ) turned out to be an oil cooler hose .. This hose was real soft unlike the other hoses. It goes into a tee into the side of the intake manifold, meets there where the rad hose goes in. It's a short hose 18-24" about 1.25-1.5" diameter . Not preformed, think you could use a generic hose even. The bottom end clamps onto the oil cooler just under the oil filter. When I replaced it, I jacked up the car to get to it from underneath. Since this hose seems pretty flimsy to me, lots of people probably scavenge them from the yards. A good import auto parts store should have one for you. Hope this helps.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of it would you? I'm trying to picture the general area where this would be.
