Hello all,

The rear wiper on my 2004.5 variant points to the right when turned off. The rear wiper on my 2001 variant pointed to the left when turned off. The wagons on the VW site show the wiper pointing to the left.

So my question is:

Did A) someone put my wiper on backwards, or B) this is an odd 1/2 year modification by the factory?

my 04.5 points to the right. i'm guessing they took the motor from the A4 Avant. IIRC that wiper points right as well.

only on the first view, but touaregs rear wiper is completly different

My 2002 points to the left. I have noticed a few other Variants and you're right is appears to be inconsistent.

Is this an easy job ? Are there any instructions or guides to follow ?

My wiper points to the left, and i'd ideally like to change it for a smoother looking one, is my only option to change the motor so it sits on the right, then change the arm & blade ?

It is fairly easy job, I bought parts based on Marc's site ( http://www.passatplus.de/umbauten/heckwischer/heckwischer.htm ) and just swapped OE motor for Golf one. It sits with no problems whatsoever. It is real bolt on DIY mod, same goes for front wipers.
You will have no problem to do it.

I will look into the motor swap, but there must be other VAG cars with wipers that sweep from the left, to make it an easy swap.

UPDATE

I bought a longer wiper 7E0 955 425 (from Transporter T5)
It has the same length as the original Passat wiper
