So im going to try to make a long story as short as possible so just bear with me. I bought a 2000 Passat GLS 1.8t a couple weeks ago. Ever since I got it home the power mirrors will not adjust and the master window switch will only lock and unlock the doors and let the driver window up and down. It will not let the windows up or down on any of the other 3 doors, however on each individual door its own window switch will let each one of its own windows up and down flawlessly. Ive replaced the master window switch and the mirror switch and those made no difference. Ive checked all fuses and all are good. Ive also noticed that the master window switch will only operate the drivers window for about 10 minutes after the battery is connected, after around about 10 minutes it will quit working, if I unplug the window motor and plug it back in it goes back to working for a few minutes but quits again after a few minutes. While tinkering with all of that I also found the car has a parasitic drain and the battery is dead every morning after it sits over night, no lights or anything appear to be staying on. I got to checking around with a volt meter and I found the drain is coming from the driver window motor, if I unplug the motor the drain goes away and the battery stays charged over night. So from all my research from this group and others it seems that the driver window motor is usually the prime suspect? Ive seen the ccm is sometimes the cause of these symptoms as well. I did pull back the carpet and visually inspect the ccm and all of its wires and found no frayed or shorted wires and zero evidence of previous or current water intrusion. So should I throw a new window motor on it and hope for the best? Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance guys

When you disconnected the window motor, you mean the black box connected to the motor? If so, that is the door control module and it contains electronics that control that door, and the communication with the CCM and other doors.

It sounds like you may have a bad door control module. They are usually NLA at this point, but can still be found. Look for a part number on the module, and possible color marks (color codes). If you have VAG-COM, you should be able to look up the part number of the door control module through that.

The best way to find a replacement that will work properly is to find a good used module/window motor from the same EXACT year/trim/spec car-that is if you cannot find one new.

Also, if yours failed like mine, water got in through the plastic tube that looms the window mirror harness and needs to be sealed from the outside. Check the plug on the door control module for corrosion, and water marks on the inner door skin. If you replace the module/motor and do not fix this leak-it'll happen again. Also check the passenger side for this leak-and pre-emptively repair it.

Thanks for the reply and yes, that is what I was reffering to that I had disconnected. Ive found a few new ones online but there all over $100, I just wanted to see what kind of answers I got on here before I started dumping money in parts.

When yours failed what all symptoms did yours have
