Power lumbar support

Hi guys/gals,
just realized that my driver side power lumbar is not working.
It does not inflate nor adjusts up and down.
I still got warranty as it is a 09 passat wagon.
will be taking into the shop today but was wondering if anyone has experienced this before?
can it be repaired as i can see it would be a PITA to remove the leatherette covering or do they just replace the seat........which i can only assume it will be big $$$$$$$$$$

any feed back would be appreciated
thanks in advance, Tony

that sucks lol at least you dont have to pay for the fix!! if you find out what the issue was let us know. i normally dont touch mine, just set and forget!
Mine has done the same - they said it was the switch, but I call BS. I think it is the mechanism inside that has either fallen off it's guides, or something otherwise mechanical-related.

Keep us posted - I am interested in what they tell you!
thanks for the comments/replies.
i dont think its the switch for mine, can hear the mechanism working when button is pressed. i think is is the track as well.
Yeah i dont usually touch the support as it's my wifes daily driver, but was just waking an adjustment when i got in for a long weekend trip.

HAd to cancel my appointment with vw yesterday and resch'd for next week. will keep you all posted.

Thx,
T
Had that happened to me. They replaced it under warranty. I don't remember all that they replaced but they didn't have to replace the seat.
I had this a while back all that happened is it like BRYa said it was just fell off the track so you would hear a clicking noise when u try to push it forward, simple solution remove leather/leatherette place it back on track and you will be fine, i live on a hill and had it forward so when i sit the weight must have knocked it off... in anycase im pretty sure thats what you have to do.
Just closing the loop from my original post.
Took the car in last friday and got the power lumbar fixed.
Basically, vw replaced the motor as the internal gears/electrical were the issue.
Job was done in 3hrs and finally back to comfortable driving.
If anyone was wondering what it would cost out of pocket (no warranty)...........motor was $700 and to add in 3hrs labour, mosdef north of $1000.
Happy to still have the warranty.

Cheers,
T
Any pictures?

Hello I have just had the same lumbar problem but refuse to accept that I need a whole new seat (as dealers say). I have found the offending motor but it is pop rivited on to the frame. Before I start hacking has anyone got any photos of the motor, gears or even the inside of the seat? Hope so...Is it me or is the B5.5 passat better screwed together?

Cheers
same problem here....mine dont work. i wondered if it worked on some trim levels and not on others?
Thats my new story I was adjusting the lumbar support on the driver seat and the lumbar support just pop out from wherever it needs to be

Any clue on how to disassemble and remove the fabric to try to fix it?

This hasn't happened to my '07 yet (although sometimes the motor sounds like it's having a hard time moving) but I definitely will set this and forget ever touching it just like the pos e-brake switch. Yes I understand nothing lasts forever but whatever happened to German engineer story crap. At 63K miles, I feel like I'm in for some trouble ahead, granted I haven't had as much maddening issues on this car other than a/c.
After todays shower I decided to give it a try and out wasn't difficult at all... The bottom part of the back rest can be pulled out and it's only on place by a seem into a plastic kind of track after unfolding the leatherette it can just be pulled upwards and it gives enough access space to maneuver around .

My problem was that the rivet holding the lumbar support on place if the tracks popped out for note I just accommodated the assembly of the lumbar support back on place and its back tio serve its purpose until I get a rivet gun and replace the broken one
You need to make sure you lean up and not have any weight/pressure on it when you adjust. The tension/pressure is what causes it to fail.
I did as suggested. I got the leatherette up but just a little. Didn't have enough access and gave up. I was working upside down trying to see in, but just couldnt get enough access. All the motors are spinning so it seems the wires have popped of track. I was really frustrated so I put everything back and decided to forget it. I didn't do I'll have to go back sometime and try again.

While I was in there I saw some wires from the side airbags so I was afraid to pull up too much on the leather not to activate them or something. Just. If I was able to gain access I would have done it.
Mine's 2006. I'm surprised it lasted this long.
How do remove the seat cover? Do I start from the front (lumbar side) or back (pocket) of the seat? I have the same issue, I can hear the motor moving, but can't move the lumbar forwards or backwards. I was at a stop light, facing uphill when adjusting the lumbar. The lumbar was making a clicking noise during the adjustment, and finally it stop working. Is this a matter of snapping something back in place, or do I need a new motor?

thanks
