Hi all,

My a/c compressor kept on turning on and off when I kept my car on idle while turning on the a/c. So, it only blow cold air for a moment and then hot again. But after I drove it, the a/c kept on being cold. I also noticed if kept on idle for a while, the temp starting to go above half way. And I noticed the cooling fan is not working. I checked the fuse is ok. What other parts should I check and if you can help me with the "how" and "the location" of the parts that would be great too. Thanks much....

Does the fan run at all? If not it could be the fan motor or the wiring going to the fan itself. Try checking the wires in the back of the fan and trace them back to see if anything is cut or damaged. If not the fan motor could be at fault.
The fan is not running at all, Thanks much for your input I'll look into that
Anybody else? could it be the relay?
Sounds like a bad fan motor, or the power/control to the fan has a problem. You can test the fan by connecting 12v and ground to the motor connector. If it doesn't spin up, the fan is bad and needs to be replaced.

Fan control is done by one of two methods. In some of the cars it's two relays (high speed and low speed) in a relay panel under the dash. On other cars the fan is powered and controlled by a fan control module. I don't know which cars use which method. My 1.8t with manual heat controls uses the two relays. The fan control module might be part of the Climatronic system or might be what they use with the V6. If you have a V6 and Climatronic, my bet is your car uses the module.

Did you check the 40 Amp fuse waaaaaaaay underneath the dashboard behind the steering wheel? Before doing anything crazy or expensive, unbolt (4) the lower dash panel around the steering wheel and you will see a couple of really big fuses. The 40 Amp fuse is the one you will want to check. It takes about 15 minutes and costs about $2.50 to fix. It's the easiest, cheapest start.

If that isn't it, try unplugging the fan from the relay, it's under a cover in the front driver side corner of the engine bay right by, I want to say, the power steering reservoir. Unplug the fan and then run a wire from the fan connection to the battery. If the fan clicks on, then it's a relay. If it doesn't, it could be the fan (assuming you had the wire connected firmly and properly).

Hope this helps.
