I have never taken apart a lower end of an engine. I am curious as to how rings work, or are installed? I know you use a ring compressor to install them. I don't plan on doing any work, but curious as to how they work. What are they made out of? Is it just metal, or is there a coating. Do they fit tightly to the piston, or is there some play on the piston, but fit tight to the cylinder wall? What does it mean when you have a "stuck" ring? Whats stuck on it? How do they get lubricated? Is it just splashed with oil, or is there a oil passage that keeps them wet. Thanks! T
